Peyto Lake is on the Icefields Parkway between Lake Louise and Jasper.
My friend Carolyn had never been camping in the Rockies, so I offered to take her on one of my photographic trips.
We reached the lookout to Peyto Lake fairly late in the day. However, I wanted to wake up early to see the sunrise and an early morning view, so I decided to spend the night there.
We had dinner and were sitting and chatting when suddenly I heard some heavy breathing just behind me. I instantly knew what it was and said, “Carolyn, get in the van now.” So we both jumped in. It was a Grizzly.
The Grizzly left. The following morning I took several photographs of the lake and did this painting from one of them.
